About this model

CrankGlow is a compact battery-free hand-crank LED lamp designed as a simple and practical 3D printing project. The lamp generates electricity manually by turning the crank, stores the generated energy in a supercapacitor, and uses that stored energy to power the LED after you stop cranking. The design uses a geared DC motor as a small generator. The generated voltage is rectified and regulated before charging the supercapacitor, which means no conventional battery is required. The LED filament is also designed to be removable and replaceable, so different LED colours can easily be used. In my current setup, approximately 2 minutes of hand cranking provides around 10 minutes of light, depending on crank speed, LED type, and the electrical components used.
