About this model
Spinthariscope for viewing alpha scintillations from Am-241 on a phosphor screen. Recommended phosphor: Silver Doped Zinc Sulfide (ZnS:Ag) The screen can be made by adhering the phosphor onto the adhesive side of clear tape. The two rings can be glued to both sides of the tape, then cut around. The americium button from an ionization smoke detector fits into the tip of the bolt (some sources vary in size, and I also had to enlarge the hole with a Dremel). Keep in mind, the adjustable focus "snaping" on the enclosure was a stroke of luck, and I originally planned to just glue it in place.
