About this model
This is a DIY trackball prototype. It uses this PMW3360 sensor breakout: and either a 57.2mm or a 38mm ball (I used billiard balls). In addition to the breakout you'll need some kind of a (3.3V-capable) microcontroller. I used an Arduino Micro. The buttons are Kailh low profile (choc v1) keyboard switches.
