About this model
This configurable coupling generator (couplings_parametric.scad) is capable of producing an X8031 (Hornby/Bachmann), X9660 (Dapol/Hornby/Airfix) and Hornby dovetail (hornby's NEM socket socket), with and without hooks. Usually the real dovetail fixing creates a NEM socket, but I've skipped the middleman and produced a coupling that can slot straight into the Hornby chassis. In my experience, the real dovetail connectors fall out far too easily, especially when pulling a long train. The printed version isn't perfect, but stays in better than the real Hornby ones I've used (when fitted with a wide coupling). I've uploaded the most useful STL files. The Dapol coupling will need printing in something flexible. PLA snapped when trying to insert it, PETG worked well. The hooks seem to work best …
