This cast has been created after a model by Adolphe Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume and it has been sculpted in copper. The symbols of the Evangelists were placed at the base of the spire, on vertical wooden poles remaining from the 13th century spire. Represented by an angel, Saint Matthew holds a closed book representing the gospel he has written, like the three other saints (Mark, Luke and John). Each of the books bears a unique ornamentation.
