About this model

Josef Madersperger Monument at Karlsplatz, Vienna. The bust from 1933 was made by Karl Philipp. Josef Madersperger (1768-1850) was a master tailor. He is considered one of the inventors of the sewing machine. In 1839, Madersperger invented a machine that simulated the weaving process and worked the chainstitch. Since Madersperger had no money to build a factory, he donated his sewing machine model to the k.k. polytechnic institute (today’s Technical University of Vienna).
