This vase and another that is now lost, were commissioned in 1742 by Philibert Orry, Director of the King's Buildings, for the park of the royal Chateau de Choisy (near Paris), where they were never put in place. Two other vases with the attributes of autumn, held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, were produced as companion pieces by Jean Baptiste Pigalle and Nicolas Sebastien Adam.
