But the reason to print these is not the motifs. The glass never sticks A coaster with a flat top fails in the one way a coaster can fail. A cold glass sweats, the film of water bridges two flat faces, and when you pick the drink up the coaster comes with it and then falls off somewhere between the table and your mouth. So the artwork here is not engraved into the drink face — it stands 0.6 mm above it, and a broken ring of stand-offs near the rim stands the same height. The glass lands on those. Under it there is 0.6 mm of open air, the gaps in the ring let air back in…
