It was developed to destroy heavily fortified enemy positions and was armed with a powerful 152 mm howitzer mounted in a large, box-shaped turret. The KV-2 had thick armor that made it difficult for many German anti-tank weapons to penetrate, especially during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa in 1941. However, its massive turret made the tank very heavy and slow. Despite its weaknesses, the KV-2 became famous for its ability to withstand enemy fire and hold up advancing German forces.
