I got the idea to make this magnet holder after watching a video on polymagnets. Basically that company "prints" multiple magnets onto the surface of a single blank magnet. They can print alternating north and south faces to get some pretty interesting interactions like a latch or a spring. You can buy the magnets here (though any 4mmx2mm magnet will do): Find the acrylic dowel here (but you can use any 3/8" size dowel):
