This is the Russian 9N235 (9H235), a high-explosive fragmentation (HE-Frag), anti-personnel (AP), submunition, 9N indicating artillery submunition with a double- skinned body containing preformed fragments of two sizes. The submunition has a nose point-detonating (PD), direct impact 9Z246Mbv fuze with a 2min self-destruct (SD) timing. The submunition contains 396 chopped steel rod pre-formed fragments between the inner and outer submunition casings held within a black plastic liner. Two sizes of chopped steel rod are found in the submunition, the smaller size (0.5g) being mainly for use against personnel and the larger size (4.5g) for use against lightly armoured vehicles or material.
