About this model
Unlike my earlier publication of a trivet these structures are of complete procedural origin, no tracing or pixel manipulation of any kind was involved. I used Illustrator and some very cool scripts by Hiroyuki Sato to create various organic structures. * voronoi_from_selected_objects.jsx * Round Any Corner.jsx * Archimedean Spiral.jsx * circlepacking_in_a_circle.jsx To make these trivets I used my entry-level cnc and some 6 mm birch and beech plywood. To prevent the very bright birch wood from burn marks if used with a really hot pan I veneered smoked oak on one surface. A laser cutter might be a good alternative tool to create one like this. I have even seen some scaled down prints. Visit for more interesting trivet designs.
