This simple model represents a typical Japanese 5-story pagoda that houses several buddhist relics, similar to the ones seen in the Hōkan-ji Temple in Kyōto, or the Sensō-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo. Kyoto's Yasaka-no-to Pagoda is a 15th-century addition to a 6th-century temple complex known as Hōkan-ji Temple. It is a popular tourist attraction of the city, and one of its most photographed landmarks. Japanese pagodas are very similar to Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean ones in style, the Chinese being the historical inspiration and model for all others, and in turn, is a reimagination the Indian stupa.
