About this model
Torso. A plaster cast from the Royal Cast Collection at SMK, the National Gallery of Denmark, 3D scanned by the museum. Copy in plaster of a torso once placed in the Palazzo Valentini in Rome. The destroyed, antique torsos have been the locus of many dreams about restoration and identification. This one once had a head put on it, as can be seen from the hole in the neck to hold it to, of Diomedes, King of Argos. He fought on the Greek side during the Trojan War, and killed a couple of Amazons. The original is Roman, made in Greek style around year zero. The scan is in the public domain and free to download from SMK as STL (20 MB for the smallest file). Large sculptures print best scaled down and with supports.
