About this model
Japan deployed many Nakajima Ki-27 fighters to Manchuria during their occupation of the region in WWII. To cope with the heavy snow encountered there, the aircraft were fitted with larger tires, the wheel pants being removed to facilitate cleaning. In service, they were known as Ki-27 Kaizo (Modified). Many examples were captured by the Chinese Army towards the end of the war and turned against their former owners. A few even saw service with flight training units of the Red Chinese during the 1948 Civil War. They were all withdrawn from service by 1952, when the Nanchang CJ-5 (license-built Yak-18) replaced them.
